Detroit je t’aime is a documentary film about urban utopia made by two frenchies living in Detroit.   

 For the past two years, Helene and Nora  have been working together to make a film about urban utopia – a pet project of theirs ever since they set foot in the “post-communist” countries. In July 2009, Helene and Nora got a grant from the city of Paris for their ‘utopia around the world’ project, followed shortly thereafter by an Arthur K. Peters Memorial Travel Grant 2010. Finally, in April 2011, the two of them were awarded a development grant from the prestigious French Film Institute (Centre National de la Cinématographie) to write and direct a documentary about Detroit.

Though the film is still being created, Nora and Helene are doing it right.  Through their blog(s), they are both catering to and creating an audience for their film.  Their updates, articles and general web presence helps with the hype of this film and - down the line - will help with selling their film.   This means direct sales of DVD’s on their website it, iTunes Sales, and even direct purchase of theatre tickets.  Whatever their strategy ends up being, they have laid a good foundation.   Independent filmmakers, take note!
